A salve of this sort diminishes the harshness of life. Try to imagine how you would cope without a safety net of support from family, friends, and coworkers. In all likelihood, you wouldn't. It is not unlikely that a very brief period of time would lapse before you reach for a noose. Worse, imagine losing your cellphone and its contents.
In fact, odds are that it would only take someone, nearly anyone, telling you that you've got no future before you actually stop thinking about the future. That's how little life means to most of you.
The human condition has so utterly degenerated that the person telling you that you have no future would be pressed by someone stronger to convey that, so pathetic they would be on their own.
